Sesto al Reghena
The pre-Roman town of Sesto al Reghena preserves many archaeological finds. It was part of Aquileia’s patriarchate until the military invasion of Venice. With the treaty of Campo Formio dated 1797, Sesto al Reghena was annexed to the Lombardo Veneto Reign, and later on became part of the Reign of Italy.
In the town you can find the huge Abbey, which was built by three Longobards called Anto, Erfo and Marco, and can be considered a splendid example of a fortified monastery. Inside the Basilica medieval frescos, from the XII to the XV century, and the urn of St. Anastasia, from the VIII century, can be admired.
Not to miss a visit to Villa Freschi, a splendid example of Venetian Villa from the 18th century, and the fountain of Venchiaredo, a marvellous place exalted from writers as Ippolito Nievo and Pierpaolo Pasolini.
